Personal Information

Karin Helmstaedt is a Canadian journalist, TV host and moderator based in Berlin. In her past life she swam for Canada, was the singer/songwriter in a band, and studied Literature and Phys.Ed. – not necessarily in that order.

Since 1999 she’s been one of the most constant faces on Germany’s international broadcaster Deutsche Welle, hosting news and culture magazine formats as well as live events. Currently her main beat is as a culture reporter with frequent detours to host conferences and chair panels in fields ranging from communications to rail transport to raw materials.

She has lived in four countries, speaks three languages, has two wonderful kids and a serious faible for poetry and people – and believes that a smile or a friendly word can make a difference, and maybe even change a life.
